What happened in the world of surfing during October?
Fioravanti and Callaghan take Portugal
As the Challenger Series proceeds with only three events until the Championship Tour qualification is final, we found ourselves tuning into Ericiera, Portugal for the EDP Vissla Pro Ericiera. In mushy conditions, we saw the Rio Waida, Leo Fioravanti, and Ryan Callinan officially clinch their spots on the CT for the men. Meanwhile, Macy Callaghan punched her ticket on the women’s side. In the end, Fioravanti and Callaghan claimed finals day and the top of the rankings headed to Brazil.
Longboard Champions Crowned
The third and final stop for the WSL Longboard Tour traveled to Malibu Surfrider’s for two days of nose-riding action and to crown the champion. In the end, Harrison Roach rose above Kaniela Stewart for the men’s championship and Soliel Errico ascended to the women’s throne. With attention facing the Longboard Tour increasing, WSL also announced the addition of two more tour stops for 2023.
Billabong Sells Pipe House
In non-competition news, the surf giant, Billabong, sold its beach-front house on the North Shore. The house, which has been a staple of surfing for over 20 years, is now owned by “a close friend of the brand,” said Billabong’s Global GM to reporters. He also ensured that the house will still be the headquarters for the brand and for the Billabong Pro Pipeline.
