Steph and Felipe win at Ripcurl WSL Finals at Trestles
September 8th, we witnessed the top five men and women perform at Lower Trestles to decide the WSL World Champion. Stephanie Gilmore dramatically fought from fifth to defeat Carissa Moore in the finals and claim her record-breaking eighth world title. Meanwhile, Felipe Toledo fulfilled his destiny beating our number four Italo Ferreira and claiming his maiden title. Certainly, one for the books.
Yvon Chouinard gives away Patagonia
Yvon Chouinard shocked the world when it was announced that he had given up his entire shares of his company, Patagonia. The shares are now owned by “Earth,” but really a fund committed to climate activism. It was truly an unprecedented action that really just shows they’re still keeping business unusual.
WSL announces 2023 schedule
Shortly after capping off a successful year of global contests including mid-season cuts, wildcard event winners, and so much more, the WSL announced their schedule for 2023. The main distinction is replacing G-land with Surf Ranch, a move not too many are happy about. With Olympic qualification added to the mix next year, things are sure to be interesting.
Kanoa Igarashi and Kirra Pinkerton take 2022 ISA World Games
With Olympic spots on the line, global talents like Kolohe Andino, Griffin Colapinto, Rio Waida, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Miguel Pupo flocked to Huntington Beach for the 2022 ISA World Games. After the dust settled, Kanoa Igarashi (JAP) and Kira Pinkerton (USA) took gold, earning a spot for Japan men’s and USA women’s teams.
Leo Fiorvanti “The Cut”
Outside of the competition world, Leo Fiorvanti released a new edit titled “The Cut.” The clips are from a trip following the WSL mid-year cut in which Leo puts down some A+ surfing. Definitely worth the watch.
